If you haven’t heard of the Strandbar yet, you haven’t been to Konstanz long. Located directly on the shores of the Rhine in front of the HTWG-canteen, this place is the unsurpassed outdoor location to hang out between May and October while enjoying a cocktail, beer or sausages. DJs, bands, and soccer matches on large screens round off the fun at the Strandbar.

Kulturladen / Kula

The long-established Kula (in the Chérisy area) has a professional live booking system. Both “average Joes” and music nerds are excited about the monthly programme with hot bands. The non-profit club organises concerts spanning from hard rock, to indie onto hip hop. Once a month there is a Poetry Slam. Parties and smaller festivals top it off. There is a bar and restaurant on the upper level.

Some are drawn here by the underground music, others by the VIP lounge. You can even rent this lounge at Berry’s. Dress code is the name of the game if you want to shake a leg on the two dance floors or chill out in the lounge. On Mondays at the Berrys Studance – The Night for Students – you get free entry until 11 pm. and drink specials on top. The bouncers won’t let any drunken people in. You can rent the entire location including its event organising service.

This basement bar is a veritable institution among Konstanz students, not least because of its Happy Hour (Mondays and Wednesdays until 10 pm.), where you’ll get two drinks for the price of one. And if you’re feeling hungry, there’s a range of affordable snack and pizza options. Heimat is great for kicking off your night out or for hanging with your friends.

Those who are on the go downtown should stop by the Klimperkasten, close to the ‘Schnetztor’. This bar would be considered hip even in Berlin due to its unique retro interior. Get a drink, sit down in one of the armchairs and feel the groove when DJs crank up sixties music, garage, soul, rock’n’roll, indie or old-school hip hop – of course from vinyl. And Sunday nights it’s time to watch the German crime series “Tatort” in the back room.
