Cross-border flea market

You have already settled into life in Konstanz, but your student flat still lacks some special accessories such as crazy lamps, cool pictures or simply crockery and beer mugs? And you have already burned a hole in your wallet? Then the 24-hour flea market in Konstanz is the place to be. Every year vendors sell their goods on 9 kilometres of stand space. The offer is so vast that it’s best to note down your wishes in advance as otherwise you might get lost in the piles of rummage.

Moreover, the Sunday flea market of Konstanz is the only cross-border flea market in the world, and you can clear the stands on the German as well as on the Swiss side. If you are an expert bargain hunter, you should head out on Saturday evening already, as the market officially starts at 7 p.m.. At the »night flea market« you can find the best pieces, and the atmosphere with the torch-lit stands is amazing. True rummage kings do not rely on the vendors’ lighting engineering, but head out with a headlamp. If you intend to sell something yourself, you must register in due time. It’s easiest to subscribe to the flea market newsletter, as you won’t miss any information that way.

Tip for bargain hunters: Fairkauf, recycling depot, Brockenhaus

You need crockery for your apartment, a wardrobe, or a used vacuum cleaner? Have a look at the second-hand store “Fairkauf”  or the Warenbörse (merchandise exchange) of the Wertstoffhof (recycling depot) . Both are Caritas initiatives where you can find great bargains from time to time.

In Switzerland we recommend the Brockenhaus, called “Brocki” by everyone (there are two inKreuzlingen!).
